Introduction to Fire Making

Learn one of the most timeless outdoor skills in this hands-on introduction to building, managing, and enjoying fire safely and responsibly.
You’ll explore everything from selecting natural tinder and building different fire lays to practicing ignition techniques with fire strikers. We’ll also dive into how fire connects us to our ancestors and why it’s such an essential skill for anyone who loves the outdoors.
What you’ll learn:
- Selecting and preparing natural tinder and kindling
- Building different types of fires
- Practicing ignition techniques like fire strikers
- Managing and fully extinguishing campfires
- Local considerations for responsible fire use

Local Medicinal Plants & Their Uses

Join us for a hands-on exploration of the plants growing all around us and learn how generations before us used them for nourishment, healing, and daily life.
We’ll walk the land together to identify local medicinal and edible plants right in their natural habitat. You’ll learn traditional uses, ethical harvesting, and simple ways to start incorporating these plants into your daily routines.

Introduction to Animal Tracking

Step into the hidden world of Texas wildlife through the art of tracking. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to identify and interpret animal tracks and signs, study movement patterns, and see how wildlife connects to our local ecosystems.
What you’ll learn:
- Spotting and identifying tracks and signs
- Interpreting movement patterns and animal behavior
- Using field sketches and plaster casting to record finds
- How to keep building your tracking skills with guides and continued practice
Expect to slow down, notice the details, and gain a new way of seeing the world. You’ll leave with practical tracking tools and a sense of wonder that changes how you walk through the woods.
